CAIRO (AP) ? An Egypt appeals court has revoked a November presidential decree sacking the country's top prosecutor that had caused an uproar among the judiciary.
The state news agency said Wednesday the Cairo appeals court ordered the return of the prosecutor to his post, asking the justice minister to implement the order.
The decision is likely to be appealed by the government, but further pushes the tension between Islamist President Mohammed Morsi and the judiciary, which had view the move as trampling on its authority.
Morsi's appointment of a new prosecutor came after longstanding calls by revolutionary groups to replace Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud, considered a holdover from the regime of ousted President Hosni Mubarak. However, judges and rights groups said Morsi violated the right of the judges to name the new prosecutor.
